Each reader of this annual report should be sure to take a more thorough look at the sections that are of particular interest or fall within their area of specialization. We encourage all of you to take advantage of this document, which is distributed to the members of the industry that are represented in shareholders' meetings and in the various committees and other bodies of the AMIB.
I would like to place particular emphasis, however, on one aspect that I have been stressing since I took office as Chairman of this institution. We are concerned that the advantages this nation is enjoying in terms of its relative strength in a global climate of outright deterioration, after almost five years of positive growth, are not being taken advantage of fully and consistently by the full scope of Mexican businesses.
We are convinced that companies should be working to strengthen themselves, and very concretely, introducing better corporate governance practices so that they are in a good position to obtain financing from a variety of alternative sources. With this we can generalize the success shown by some Mexican companies that have been able to consolidate their international or domestic leadership over the past decade, in their various branches of activity, showing the path that can be followed to make headway even in the difficult and competitive world of globalization. >>
