Communications
In 2007, we continued our efforts to keep the general public informed of the nature, attributes and benefits of the securities market, both for investors and for companies that require financing. We have taken a number of actions in pursuit of this goal, which are highlighted below.
AMIB Webpage
Prompted by new regulations on mutual funds and also by the desire to offer added value to the industry and the general public, the Association substantially updated the information it publishes.
Among the new information now available on the AMIB webpage are eligible investors, liquidity, initial investment amounts, benchmarks, net yields, gross yield, yields not including fund funds, yields on a standardized base, real yields, graph-mapping of data to compare various series of mutual fund shares, new classifications, and similar funds. It also provides a specific yield format that meets official mutual fund regulations, so that it can be used by fund managers to include in the section on yields within their information prospectuses for the investing public
Media
Throughout the year, AMIB maintained an active presence in various of the news media: magazines, newspapers, radio programs, and television (on cable as well as broadcast television and the TV network CNN en Español), covering financial and market-related topics. We focused our content on the benefits of stock-market investment (either through mutual funds or directly in the equity market), general awareness of securities-market topics, the outlook for the industry, and the impact and benefits of the new Securities Market Law for the industry and for investors. On this last topic we were the liaison for a series of interviews with directors and spokespersons for the Association.
To fulfill our obligations under existing media agreements and to respond to media requests for interviews regarding the securities market, when expert opinions are necessary, we have a group of spokespersons specializing in each of the disciplines in which we are involved: corporate finance, money market, equity market, mutual funds, research, sales, and other areas.
Print media
Continuing our efforts to promote and publicize the securities market, we continued to publish our quarterly bulletin entitled "Valores por la Fortaleza de Mexico". As always, we included articles to promote awareness of the securities market, mutual funds as an investment choice, and information on the market in general, order to attract more of the investing public interested in the products our market has to offer. The central purpose of this bulletin is to attract more investors interested in the products offered by our market.
This year, we published a special edition of the Bulletin, the main topic of which was the Securities Market Act, its most important features, the new categories of business in Mexico, the requirements of the National Securities Registry, corporate financing through the stock market, and interviews with experts who commented on these topics.
The Bulletin is distributed both electronically and in print, and is sent to more than 10,000 recipients. It is distributed broadly in offices of the Mexican Presidency, in the upper and lower houses of Congress, the judicial branch, state and municipal governments, to entrepreneurs, directors and representatives of business organizations that make up the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), in Mexican universities, throughout the securities trade, and of course, to the investing public.
